Download Magazine1 Classic.
Simply unzip dhe theme file you have downloaded and upload the resulting ‘Magazine1’ folder to your WordPress themes folder. Then navigate to Appearance > Themes and activate Magazine1.
a. Setting Up
For starters, things look pretty messed up until you change the theme options and populate your site with content.
Upon activating the theme, you will notice the ‘Magazine1 Options’ tab in the Appearance section of WordPress admin panel. Click on it.
When you’re inside the Options page the first thing you’ll notice is the option to choose skins, you can do that by selecting one of the skins available on the list.
Changing the Logo
You can simply enter the Url of your logo file into the input field and the default logo will be replaced.
This is an option to replace the logo with a title text. You can enter the colour codes of the Title and Tagline text.
Featured Content slider
Here you can set the number of Posts to show in the Featured Content slider on the homepage, and select which elements of the Post to display inside the slider.
Choose the number of headlines to display. These are the most recent Headlines fetched from all categories.
Select which categories to show Posts from. The last three entries from each category are displayed on the homepage.
These are default widgets that come with the Theme, select the ones you want to be shown to the Sidebar Widget Area.
The theme is widget-ready, so of course you can add your own widgets to the sidebar by going to Appearance > Widgets. Click the Add button next to each widget you wish to add.
Post Page options
Select widgets to display in the Widget Area inside of a post page.
Contact Page options
Fill in you e-mail address where you would like to receive the contents of the message submitted by visitors.
This part is for replacing the Ads with your own. They need to be of the exact dimensions: 527px X 77px for the Main Center Banner and 125px X 125px for the ones on the Sidebar.
Enter the Information that will be displayed in the footer area.
b. Adding Content
Filling your site with content is very easy. This works just normal except for a few things.
There are different types of posts in the theme. You don’t have to do anything specific for most of them, but you will need to setup unique categories for video and photos. So you need to have categories named ‘Video’ and ‘Photos’ for the theme to work properly. You can have any number of sub-categories for each.
To make a ‘Featured Post’
All you need to do to make a post appear in the Featured Content slider, is to simply tag the post as “Featured” (without the quotes). To add a tag, just find the ‘Post Tags’ box on the Add New Post screen and enter it there. The slider will show the latest posts with that tag.
How to add thumbnails using the Post Thumbnail feature (WordPress 2.9)
When you go to your Admin panel and start writing a new post, you should see a Post Thumbnail box on the right side of the page.
In this box click on the Set Thumbnail link and the usual Add Media dialogue will pop up where you can upload images or choose one from your Media Library. At the end of the dialogue which appears after uploading or selecting an image in the Library there is a new link beside the Insert into Post button called ‘Use as thumbnail’.
Click this and your chosen image will be assigned as the post thumbnail. You can close the media dialogue now and the theme will do the rest.
Creating a Video Post
In order for posts to show up in the video areas, they have to be assigned to the ‘Video’ category. So you need to create this category and publish the posts under it. Do not forget to add thumbnails using the method explained earlier so the post will look nicer.
